Inspired by the grandeur of English country garden estates, Mayfield Garden near Oberon began to take shape in the mid-1990′s and today is one of the world’s largest privately owned cool climate gardens. Mayfield Garden extends across more than 160 acres (64H) and sits within a 5,000 acre working farm.

Private Garden Open Days program includes live entertainment, delicious catering and a shuttle bus service (between key points in the garden). Open days are

The Water Garden has at its heart a 6 acre stone and water feature garden and includes follies such as a blue-stone bridge, red bridge, boardwalks a copper tree fountain, obelisk pond and allée of London Plane trees.

The Nursery at Mayfield Garden is stocked with a wide range of cool climate plants.  Completing the Water Garden experience is the Nursery with its extensive range of cool climate plants, & the Kitchen Café serving seasonal, freshly prepared food. The Water Garden, Nursery & Kitchen Café @ Mayfield Garden are all open 7 days a week

Open: Daily 9am – 4.00pm (last entry at 3pm to the Water garden)

Pearson’s Lookout, just south of the village of Capertee affords one of the best views of the majestic Capertee Valley below. There are 180 degree views of the Valley with Pantoney’s Crown dominating the ground below. View the Gardens of Stone and Wollemi National Park to the south and up towards Kandos and Rylstone in the North. The Capertee Valley is the second largest enclosed canyon in the world and to get a bird’s eye view there is no better or more easily accessible place than Pearson’s Lookout

The poppet head towers above the first State Government owned coal mine, signifying the struggle to bring the black gold to the surface. The museums collection of memorabilia and artefacts depict working life in Australia’s coal mines.

Lithgow State Mine’s newest attraction is the spectravision presentation called “Fire in the Mine” and is the latest amazing exhibition at the Lithgow State Mine Heritage Park.

Listen to Marion Curry tell her moving story of the dangers faced by miners in their everyday work. The exhibition utilizes the spectravision technique to project a moving image into the display, an experience that needs to be seen to be believed.

Experience the wonders of Dunns Swamp (Ganguddy) in the Wollemi National Park from a stable kayak on the pristine waters of the Cudgegong River. Marvel at the awe of nature as you wind through striking rock formations, stunning sandstone gorges and picturesque woodlands: the best way to appreciate the unique natural beauty of this place is from the water.

Kayak hire is available daily with single kayaks and double kayaks. Stand up Paddle Board hire also available.

Operating daily during school holidays and on weekends from September to April.

Southern Cross Kayaking also offer guided kayak tours – departing daily at 9am and Friday evenings at 5pm during daylight saving.

Wildlife you may encounter during your paddle includes wallabies, purple swamphens, lyrebirds, long-necked turtles, musk dusks and you might even glimpse a platypus!

No experience necessary: paddling instruction and safety briefing provided.
